Downtown Abilene will be transformed into the imaginative world of Dr. Seuss. Explore of some of his famous works at the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature and at The Center for Contemporary Arts. Children can enjoy readings from 7 different Dr. Seuss books throughout the weekend with art activities held after each reading. They can meet the characters, see the movies and explore the art works of Theodor Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss) while visiting the landmarks of Abilene. Don’t let the name Dr. Seuss fool you into thinking this weekend is just for children. Theodor Geisel was a prolific artist whose works span 65 years. He began his career not as a children’s author but as a cartoonist. The Art of Dr. Seuss – A Retrospective Exhibition celebrates the art and life of Theodor Geisel. On display will be his early drawings featured in Life magazine, included are his editorial, advertising, military and book illustrations, and finally, his Secret Art collection.
