Abilene Well Represented in USTA Texas Slam

Abilene is privileged to host the largest junior tennis tournament in the nation this week: The U.S. Tennis Association-Texas/Abilene Tennis Association Texas Slam Championship.

Courts throughout the city will be bouncing with players, competing or warming up, as 1041 athletes vie for top honors. Finals will take place June 14-15 at Abilene Christian University.

Favorite thing about tennis: Going to tournaments and seeing my hard work pay off. Making great friends from all over Texas.

Tennis goals: To playing Division 1 tennis and being best player possible.

Age started playing tennis: 5

School: Wylie Junior High

Favorite thing about tennis: Aging up into the 14u division has been quite challenging, but I love the challenge and the great players that I play. I have also met some incredible friends from other cities such as Austin, Houston, Wichita Falls. It is fun to see them at the tournaments and we get to play doubles together.

Tennis goals: My goal is to hopefully get a scholarship to play tennis in college. I want to be the best that I can be.

Favorite things about tennis: “Seeing the progress you've made in your game when you look back at where you began and the competition.”
 

Tennis goals: I'd like to be a member of the first Wylie HS tennis team to win a 5A state championship. I'm also working hard to earn a scholarship to play tennis at Harvard University.

Favorite thing about tennis: Having the opportunity to meet people from all over the state and form friendships. Tennis teaches many great lessons in life such as; responsibility, problem solving skills, sportsmanship, and self-confidence.

Tennis Goals: My goal for my senior year of high school tennis is to reach 5A STATE again like I did in my junior year. My USTA goal is to continue to compete in multiple tournaments to improve my ranking and see if the Lord has a plan for me to play at the collegiate level.
