Match

ALL - only pages that contain ALL the search terms you typed in.

ANY - pages that contain at least one of the words you typed in.

Boolean - see separate section below

Check the spelling of the search word(s) you use. If you only used one word, try using one or more similar search words with "Any."

If you use more than one word with "Any," you might use one or more similar search words with "Any."

If you use more than one word with "All," try using one or more of the same words with "Any."

Format

Long format has 1) the title, 2) the part of the text in the page that most closely matches, 3) the URL displayed fully, 4) the date the page was last updated, and 5) the size of the page (if it can be determined) in kilobytes.

Short format just has the title.

Sort By

Of all the pages that match, you can then sort the pages. The default is the ones that are the closest match are listed first.

Score - pages that are the cloest match first - / Reverse Score - sort pages that are the worse matches first

Time - sort pages with the latest update first / Reverse Time - sorty pages with the oldest first.

Title - sort pages with titles A-Z / Reverse Title - sort pages with titles Z-A

Boolean Searches

Boolean expressions need to be 'correct' in order for the search system to use them.
Examples of correct expressions are:

  • cat and dog - both cat and dog need to be present - this is just like setting match to ALL
  • cat not dog - all pages with cat that do not have the word dog.
  • cat or (dog not nose) - any page with cat or any page that has dog without the word nose in it.

Note that the operator not has the meaning of 'without'.
